Raised Doughnuts

  makes about 2 dozen doughnuts

Dough
1 ½ cups milk
6 Tbsp. shortening
¾ cup water
2 eggs
¼ cup sugar
1½ Tbsp instant yeast
¾ tsp. salt
4-5 cups all purpose flour

  • Scald milk. Add shortening and cool.
  • In Dough Mixer, water, eggs and sugar.
  • Add cooled milk mixture.
  • Mix in half of flour.
  • Sprinkle in yeast and salt.
  • Add flour one cup at a time until dough pulls away and cleans sides of bowl.
  • Knead for 5 mins.
  • Roll out, cut and let rise until double in size (Approx 1 hour)
  • Deep fry on each side until golden brown.
  • Place on paper towel until ready to glaze

GLAZE
1 cups white sugar
8 Tbsp. butter
8 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. salt
1 cup icing sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

  • In a saucepan bring white sugar, butter and milk to a boil
  • Remove from heat.
  • Beat in salt, icing sugar and vanilla with hand mixer.
  • Dip donuts in glaze & enjoy!
SIDE NOTES
  • To keep unused doughnuts tasting fresher, put in the freezer as soon as cooled and glazed.  For even fresher tasting doughnuts, glaze after you take out of freezer and they are thawed
  • If you do not have a Dough Mixer you can mix ingredients by hand. Just make sure you knead it for awhile.

YaY!!!!

Guess what we're having tonight???

We aren't going to have them as a snack but DINNER...OK I'll cook some eggs, bacon, and give them a fruit. Wonder what they will eat the most of...I know the DONUTS!

I'll let you know if mine turn out and look as good as yours. Although if they taste good who cares how they look :)
